Making Websites Trustworthy

Making Websites Trustworthy will be Professors Maple’s first lecture in the series. With all the recent news stories about data being lost by large companies and governmental agencies, the public is more fearful and wary than ever of potential security risks. There has been a great deal of emphasis recently about making e-commerce websites secure.  However, it is difficult for an average consumer to understand just how secure a website is, and therefore they use their judgment of the appearance of a site to make an estimation of how secure a website is.  This session will be interactive and show participants what makes a visitor trust and distrust websites.  The session will consider a number of well-known websites and show what happens in practice.
